Lax law and order is a hindrance to women empowerment (70th BPSC Essay)
Lax law and order is a significant hindrance to women empowerment. Many efforts have been made to improve the status of women in society and provide them with their rights, but unless law and order are strong and effective, true empowerment cannot be achieved. Due to weak laws, fragile legal systems, and negligence in law enforcement, crimes and discrimination against women continue to rise, severely impacting their empowerment journey.
Our society has various laws to protect women’s rights, such as the Domestic Violence Prevention Act, laws against rape, dowry harassment, and other women-related protections. However, these laws are often not implemented properly or effectively. When laws are not enforced adequately, criminals go unpunished, and women lose their trust in the system. This inefficiency directly obstructs their ability to fight for their rights and hinders their empowerment.
In today’s times, the increasing crimes against women, like rape, sexual harassment, domestic violence, and dowry deaths, clearly indicate a weak legal system. The lack of strict action against offenders encourages the continuation of these crimes. Many times, police and the judiciary fail to act promptly, allowing criminals to escape justice. This negligence leads women to feel unsafe and powerless, creating obstacles in their physical, mental, and social development.
If the laws remain lax and ineffective, ensuring equal rights for women becomes extremely difficult. As a result, women are deprived of their rightful place and dignity in society. Women empowerment is not just about economic or educational empowerment; it also means living in a society where women can exercise their rights freely and make independent decisions about their lives.
To curb crimes against women, a robust legal system is necessary. If laws are strict and effectively implemented, it will instill fear among criminals and provide women with the freedom to assert their rights more confidently. Punishments for crimes against women must be swift and harsh so that society gets a clear message that no crime against women will be tolerated. In this way, a strong law and order system can serve as a firm foundation for women empowerment.
Furthermore, unless the police and judiciary develop sensitivity towards women’s issues, these obstacles will continue to exist. Often, women have to fight prolonged battles to attain justice, enduring mental, physical, and social hardships. To address this, fast-track courts, prompt hearings, and strict action are essential to ensure women receive timely justice.
Currently, women face multiple challenges, often having to fight hard for their rights. If law and order are made more effective, women will feel more secure and empowered, and their contributions to society will become more impactful. Lax law and order not only increase crime rates but also deeply affect women’s confidence. When women experience that crimes against them are not punished, their trust in justice erodes, leading them to suppress their voices and aspirations.
Thus, it is crucial to educate and make women aware of their rights so that even in the face of a weak system, they can stand up for themselves. A famous ancient saying reminds us, “Where women are honored, divinity blossoms there.” This quote teaches us that respect for women is the cornerstone of any progressive society.
Similarly, Mahatma Gandhi emphasized, “A nation that does not respect its women can never progress.” His words highlight that true development is impossible without empowering women and ensuring their rights and dignity.
In conclusion, it is evident that lax law and order is a major barrier to women empowerment. To truly achieve equality and ensure women’s rights, a strong and efficient legal system is essential. With such a system, women can be protected, their rights upheld, and they can participate actively in the growth and development of society. Moreover, it must become a collective understanding that any violation of women’s rights is intolerable. Only then can women empowerment be achieved, leading to the holistic upliftment of society.
